Monday's Morals #34

I'm really enjoying these so much, I'm just going back to each one to answer the ones I've missed (which is probably all of them). But this one was particularly good. "This week’s edition of Monday’s Morals has you playing God. Many have debated why God doesn’t just show Himself and remove all doubt about his existence in one grand maneuver, thereby allowing people to make a decision based on tangible proof about whether they will believe or not. Others argue that His plan is more of a test for those who believe, demanding a level of faith and action to set apart those who would be faithful to him by building a relationship with Him even if they can’t see Him, but can still feel His presence in their lives. Which route would you take if you were the Almighty? That’s the subject for this week. If you were God, would you appear all at once to everyone and demonstrate that you are unquestionably real, or would you stay in the background, demanding that people...

Movies and Television - What are We Getting?

This is an okay movie - I stayed away from it in the movie theatre because it looked like just another action movie. But Luis put it on and it seems interesting. I'm of two minds about Tom Cruise - he's a good actor, but not such a good person. And a scientologist - shiver... that is the living end of weirdness. The movie also has Cameron Diaz in it. She's okay, too. I like her voice work from the Shrek movies more than I like her in movies. But this movie seemed to have worked well and they had good chemistry. However, I am much more enthusiastic about this episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation than I am the movie. This episode is "Cold Blooded" and it has as the main theme a kid who was bitten by a dinosaur! This is a good episode - I loved it when it first aired and I still love it. Okay, Hodges is annoying but that is what he is like. And he makes a good foil for the rest of the staff. I suppose every show has to have its annoying, obsequious character to...

This Is a Rarity! All Three Rigs...

...in the same place! Every so often, you get to see something that almost never happens. We got blown out at 18:04, back-up was blown out at 18:05 and third rig was blown out at 18:06. All three of us went out, and all three of us took people to the same hospital. And in order, here is the image: This is one of those things that might happen once in a decade. But here we are, in order - 66-1 (duty crew), 66-2, and 66-3. That is so cool! 65 pulled this off last year sometime, although they were counting down - 65-3, 65-2, and 65-1. I might have posted that image on here, too. It's just that cool. And it is the rarest confluence of events that we pulled this off - and that they did, too. That is pretty neat! What are the odds? And then we were graced with this monster storm with cloud to cloud lightning and blustering winds and long, booming thunder. That is the best!

Yahoo! Must be Running Out of News

Here's why: 'MANHATTAN — The city is set to sizzle under near record temperatures Wednesday as a heat advisory went into effect and the city opened cooling centers. The mercury is expected to touch 95 with high humidity — and no relief tonight. The heat is not expected to dip below 78. Tomorrow is expected to be even hotter, with highs of 97 forecast. Wednesday's heat matches the highest temperature ever recorded on June 8, which was in 1933, according to the Weather Undergound . Officials sought to get the word out abou t cooling centers located all over the city, including some of Manhattan's public space like libraries, senior centers and community centers. Experts advised anyone without an air-conditioned place to spend the day to travel to the closest cooling center, and to drink plenty of liquids throughout the day. Anyone who believes they may be suffering heat stroke is urged to call a doctor immediately or...

A Friend's Post: "Palin Supporters and the Criticism Double Standard"

'Sarah Palin’s determined network of fans and defenders have been working overtime the past few days, since clips of her remarks about Paul Revere began hitting the airwaves and the internet. As most of us have known since middle school history classes, Paul Revere was a silversmith who gained fame for a “Midnight Ride” by horse in the overnight hours of April 18-19, 1775. The purpose of the ride was to alert John Hancock and Samuel Adams on the British Army’s movement toward Lexington, just hours before the battles of Lexington and Concord. Revere and William Dawes took two different routes to get the message delivered without being detected by the British Army. But Palin, in her trademark cutesy style, showed her blatant ignorance of history, reimagining the tale as such : “He who warned uh, the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms, uh by ringing those bells, and um, makin’ sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and...

Old Saturday Nine Meme

Saturday 9: Let's Roll 1. Where were you when you found out the bin Laden was killed? How did you find out? Where was I? No idea. Probably at home... someone probably told me, since I never watch the telly or read a paper. (That means I don't watch or read the news.) But his death was not so noteworthy that I recall where I was when I'd heard he was killed. 2. One of your best friends turns out to be saying hurtful and untrue things behind your back. What would you do? Nothing. That person wants to vent about me "behind my back" that is his or her right. I would tell the "friend" who ratted on him/her to not tell me things like that. I hate the phrase "behind his/her back", it is stupid. But then, people and the way they view things disappoint me all the time. 3. You instantly become a star. What is it that made you one? I hope writing. 4. If you could be ANY sex symbol (living or dead) who would it be and why? Ooooh, interesting question... w...
