Saturday Six #441

Continuing with the alphabet theme, I present a set of questions related to the letter C.

To play, just leave a comment with either your answers or the link to the post on your own blog if you choose to post the answers there! Each week, you can find other interesting blogs by checking the comments others leave.

Here are this week’s “Saturday Six” questions. Either answer the questions in a comment here, or put the answers in an entry on your blog… But don’t forget to leave a link to your blog so that everyone else can visit! Permission is not granted to copy the questions to message boards for the purpose of having members answer and play along there. Enjoy!

1. C is for COLOR: Which color is most represented in your wardrobe? There are two colours most represented - burgundy and hunter green. Lately, dark purple and teal are popular, so they are catching up. For years, it has been black that was most common, but I don't want to wear black all the time.

2. C is for COMEDY: What’s your all-time favorite television comedy? There is only one: M*A*S*H. I know it is not necessarily a comedy but I am a snob and hate sitcoms.

3. C is for CHANNEL: What single TV channel do you tend to watch the most? Hmmm. There isn't any one channel that I watch primarily.

4. C is for CAT: What is your favorite kind of cat? One that is alive. I love all cats. One of my two cats died in August - only three years old - and I was heartbroken. I got another kitten a week later - both myself and the other cat, Siobhan, were depressed and the new cat has really made things better.

5. C is for COMMUTE: What’s the longest distance you drive as part of your normal routine? Now? Practically nothing. When I worked, I drove 18 miles one way, or 36 miles round trip. But it was completely worth it.

6. C is for CREDIT: How many credit cards do you own? One, with a very low ceiling. Credit cards are trouble.

If you have a Reader’s Choice question you’d like to see asked (and answered), send me an email! I’d love to include it in a future edition of the Saturday Six.

Saturday Six #440

This week, all of the questions center on topics that begin with the letter B. (If you missed last week’s set, they were all A-questions, so be sure to check that out, too.)

1. B is for BUG: Which insect is your favorite? The stick bug - I saw one when I was really young and just loved it. It is one of the most unique insects around. I would classify a dragonfly as the second, and butterflies as the third.

2. B is for BONE: Have you ever broken a bone? If so, how many have you broken? I have only fractured one bone and never experienced a broken one. I fractured the bone behind my big toe in Palm Springs, California. Don't all serious injuries occur while on vacation? I twisted my foot when I came out of the pool at the hotel. I didn't know I'd fractured it so I wrapped it up and jammed the foot into my hiking boots and continued hiking through the deserts as I'd been doing before. It was a month after I'd returned that I went to the doctor because the foot still hurt and was still bruised and swollen. That's when I found out it was fractured. That was in 1999 - I went to a podiatrist earlier this year, and he could only see a very thin line.

3. B is for BOOGIE: On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your own dancing ability? I would say an eight - the disability has diminished my better dancing.

4. B is for BAKING: What was the last pastry you remember buying? Oh, my, I don't know. It's been a long time.

5. B is for BORROW: What was the last thing you borrowed from someone else? I don't honestly recall.

6. B is for BED: What size is your bed? We have a California king waterbed. The biggest bed one can buy! We both love it.

This week, all of the questions regard things that begin with the letter A. If it goes well, we may spend the following 25 weeks with the alphabetical theme, but we’ll definitely be continuing with the random nature of questions.

1. A is for APPLE: What Apple Computer product are you most likely to buy or most pleased that you have purchased? I have an iPad II, a Christmas gift from my husband. I love it to distraction! It is just delightful.

2. A is for ANATOMY: What part of your body do you feel is your best feature? Um, that I feel is my best feature? I'm harder on myself than anyone. But others compliment me on my smile, so I guess that is it.

3. A is for ACADEMICS: What single class gave you the most trouble in school? Oh, that is too easy. Mathematics. Always.

4. A is for ACE: What card game is your favorite? My father is teaching me Texas Hold 'Em. So that is it at the moment.

5. A is for AUTOMOBILE: What car or vehicle are you most likely to buy as your next ride? An Acura, just like my current vehicle. I love my Acura, though, even though it is 11 years old. They haven't made this body type in years, and I love it too much to trade it in right now.

6. A is for ARGUMENT: What is the last thing you remembered arguing about? Hmmm... the kitten - I usually stick up for her because she is a kitten, only 17 weeks old, but Luis is still bent out of shape because she accidentally scratches him. This behaviour will end with maturity, but she is still very young.

This week, we’re continuing the alphabetical theme with the letter D.

To play, just leave a comment with either your answers or the link to the post on your own blog if you choose to post the answers there! Each week, you can find other interesting blogs by checking the comments others leave.

1. D is for DAY: Which day of the week would you most like to have two of every week? I know almost everyone would say Saturday, but I always loved Monday the most when I was working. Now that I'm retired, every day is the same, so it is hard to name one that I'd like doubled. In fact, I can't think of one.

2. D is for DRAMA: What’s your all-time favorite television drama? Oh, my... um... well... I guess it would still be CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. There are many dramas I like, but I've been very attached to this one for the many seasons it has aired.

3. D is for DOG: What breed of dog that you’ve never owned would you most like to? I've never owned a dog. I suppose if I did, I would get a miniature dachshund. But I'm a cat owner, so it is unlikely I'll get a dog.

4. D is for DRINK: What single drink do you drink most often? Water with Crystal Light flavours, mostly raspberry lemonade.

5. D is for DESSERT: What is your single favorite dessert? Fresh berries in cream -- mmmmmm!

6. D is for DIME: What is the last thing you remember being able to buy for a 10¢ or less? Um... um... a gumball? It's been a long, long time since I've seen a 10¢ dispenser of any kind!

If you have a Reader’s Choice question you’d like to see asked (and answered), send me an email! I’d love to include it in a future edition of the Saturday Six.

Hell's Kitchen 2012

July 2012

Oh, yes, it is that time of the year: the weather is hot, thunderstorms (with hail - woohoo!) abound (a phenomenon that I love and revel in), people have cookouts...

...and a slew of new victims find themselves in Hell's Kitchen.

Now, this is Season TEN of this show. I have to believe that all of these contestants have seen the show - at least one season! I'd be shocked if they hadn't. And yet they come to the show and consistently make the same errors that all the "victims" make. And this group... yikes... they are by far the most non-cohesive, ego-driven, moronic group there is. The only cook I find at all likeable is Patrick and now he is beginning to run into issues. I'm not sure what is happening with him. He started out as the potential leader in the blue kitchen, but last week and this week he is having problems.

The women... well, they really give all women a bad name. They are bickering, nasty, bitchy, sneaky and catty. The large woman, Kimmie, was best friends with Robyn. Now they are fighting to the point where it looks as though they will come to fisticuffs. Then there is Tiffany... she is a total nutter. She seems normal enough, but then the second personality who is much like...

16 September 2012
This is as far as I'd gottenwith this particular posting. Luis and Ray and I honestly thought we weren't going to find anyone acceptable for the position that Chef Ramsey had. By the time we were down to five candidates left, we were rooting for Dana. By the time we were down to Justin and Christina, we were either unsure or went for Christina. (Well, Luis and I did.) Christina won. We were happy, and we did feel for Justin - he was crushed that he didn't get it.

We were all unhappy with Clemenza and how he did [not] work for Justin - he unfortunately chose Barbie (a terrible choice) and was stuck with Clemenza, whom no one wanted. He might have been better off and the first choice had he not had those two. But we won't know, and for now, I'd think Christina won it on her own merits, not because of the team she had. (Although Dana certainly was not a good choice - she argued with Christina even after the chef that works for Chef Ramsey told her to do what she was told!)

And then there was Master Chef...

We were completely delighted that Christine won! YAY!

For Love of Coldplay

By all rights, I should call this "For Love of Music", but I'm listening to Coldplay, and so they get the kudos at this moment. At this very moment, I am listening to the album A Rush of Blood to the Head, the song is Track 2, God Put a Smile on Your Face. I smile more than anything else, big, happy, genuine smiles, and people respond so well to this. I don't use it as a ploy often - it just works out that most things in life make me happy.

Someone the other day (well, maybe two weeks ago) flirted with me endlessly and what can make anyone glow like that? I love that man, flirting or not. It was flattering and fun and I loved it. I don't often get that attention from others than Luis - and Luis dishes it so much that I can honestly say I am not feeling deprived - but there is still something sweet and wonderful to hear it from another. And this comes from someone I truly feel great affection for, so that just makes it that much better. And he knows he can say anything to me and I'll never take offense. I'm very hard to offend.

Today I feel great... I don't know why, considering the multitude of health issues I have, but some days I just operate on a natural high and don't come down. I mean, sure, I miss things - I miss Baltusrol so much, it is an ache in my chest and leaves a shadow in my eyes that will never go away. But at the same time, I look at my images of it and I recall all the great times I had there and I feel so good, I could cry from joy. It was mine to love and cherish for five and a half years.

But there is a lot in life to feel good about. I make my cleaning ladies happy. Go figure, but I do. I speak to them when home (which is more often than not, although I make sure to keep out of their way for the most part, of course; I don't want them to feel like I'm looking over them or keeping tabs on them. But then once in a while, there is something to show them or the lead woman. I was showing her the solar panels and system (it run our electric and hot water heater) and she was very interested. Then the chicken-kitty, Sorcha, came up the steps to see me, and I introduced her to the cat. She loved it. They see Siobhan often enough, but she's not afraid of anyone.

Now I'm on Green Eyes, and Luis is home, so I'm singing it to him. He has dark green eyes and I think of him anytime I play this song.

Honey you are a rock
Upon which I stand
And I came here to talk
I hope you understand
The green eyes, yeah the spotlight, shines upon you
And how could, anybody, deny you
I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter now I met you
And honey you should know
That I could never go on without you
Green eyes

Honey you are the sea
Upon which I float
And I came here to talk
I think you should know

The green eyes, you're the one that I wanted to find
And anyone who tried to deny you, must be out of their mind
Because I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter since I met you
Honey you should know
That I could never go on without you
Green eyes, green eyes
Oh oh oh oh
[x4]

Honey you are a rock
Upon which I stand

It's true, he is my rock. I love the man more than he will ever know, no matter how often I tell him, show him, love him. He is my soul mate. I used to think that there was no such thing, but I've come to realise how much this man means to me. He knows it, too - at least to a high degree. I post images of him, I spend every night curled up with him. And we usually eat together, unless he comes home too late (I'm on a more rigid eating schedule, to take my meds. Not great times, but it is the life I'm getting accustomed to).

I'm almost on A Rush of Blood to the Head, a song that puts me in mind of USII, a company once prosperous and family-owned but it was not that way once I got there (wait, that doesn't sound right... it had nothing to do with my arrival!). For some years - I think ten or twelve - it was bought by a company in Winston-Salem, South Carolina. The company, run by an idiot of the -nth degree, was slowly run into the ground, bought by Steri-Cycle in late 2005 (after I left), and closed. But USII did all the damage. They laid me off in early 2005, the day I returned from a severe back injury sustained on their property when a thick layer of ice covered the parking lot. I slipped, fell, right onto my lower back, injured a disc (which is still screwed up) and they had the balls - the BRASS BALLS - to lay me off a day after I returned. Cindy and Jon O'Neill did it (although it was painfully obvious that John was not okay with this). We had lunch a couple of times after this and he admitted as much. He returned to American Cyanamid (which became another drug company that is on Route 10 and I cannot recall the name, although I know exactly where it is).

Fun memories...

Not that I didn't have plenty of good times there as well. I was just as nice and vicious there as anywhere. I know Wayne still - still - hates me for changing his last review to an honest one, instead of a glowing one that gave no criticism (no one is THAT good - and no one should have a job with no goals!). Can you imagine that? That is a talent for holding a grudge. That was not my fault. It was another's fault. False reviews are just so wrong. So wrong.

I would never allow that. And Kevin would agree that for the most part, I wrote reviews with excellence and accuracy. And I stuck to my guns with every fiber of my being when I was right.

I may not have done everything perfectly and I certainly had my flaws. But I did many things right. Ah, well. No regrets - not for me. (OK, one or two... but I prefer to see my time as a joyous adventure. It was!)

Play on, Chris Martin and Coldplay!

Part Four of 88 Questions

Today we ripped off a blogger named ChibiNatsumi21 from the blog  The Unfulfiller of Expectation. It’s 88 questions, we will do it in parts. She does not state where she found the memeBut, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Take the time to comment on other player's posts. It's a great way to make new friends! Link back to us at Sunday Stealing

75. Is there anyone who understands your sexuality? Well, yes, a huge percentage of the world does.

76. Are you a naturally happy person? Or is your happiness forced? No, I'm naturally a happy person. That doesn't mean there aren't ANY times that I need to force happiness. It means that my default state is happy.

78. What do you wear when you sleep? My skin. The same outfit I was born with!

87. What's your favorite music genre? Alternative.

88. Are you happy I only wrote 88 questions? You could write 200, I'd still be happy.
